Berlitz Spanish Premier, by Nova Development, is good learn Spanish software with great features that comes in a close second in this category. The Berlitz program has a similar feature set to the category leader, Instant Immersion Spanish: video, audio and text lessons to teach Spanish from a conversational point of view. Also included with Berlitz Spanish Premier is a set of audio CDs with another Spanish course and a version of the program that works on an iPod and other mobile devices, a feature not present in programs much more expensive.
One of Berlitz’s strengths is the wide variety of word recognition activities and word tools provided in the program. There are many different word activities and multiple ways to get information about specific words and translations. The drawback with this method is the feeling that the learning process is more like textbook learning than intuitive context learning. However, the resultant benefit of this method is the resident knowledge of many more individual words and phrases making spontaneous conversation a much easier opportunity to look forward to.
