Thomas And Friends: Special Delivery by BRIGHTER MINDS. Thomas & Friends: Special Delivery is a simple point and click story-based game based on the popular book and television series of the same name. The game is aimed at the same audience as the television series, generally the four to six year old pre-school set.
Inserting the disc into the computer is all that needs to be done in order to play the game. The menu system is a series of graphical buttons and a voice that helps you navigate the screen (so reading skills are not required). Players can choose between “Easy” and “A Little Bit Harder” in terms of difficulty, although the story remains the same in both modes. A narrator explains the story (in this case, Sir Topham Hatt sends Thomas to help James find his way back to the zoo) while a blue arrow floats on the screen. Whenever a player is prompted to interact on the screen, the arrow turns green. Additionally, a help button is always present during the interactive minigames should a player become confused or stuck.
The easier difficulty provides players with hints and guides to the correct answers. Clicking on the incorrect solution will only cause the narrator to suggest the player choose another answer from the onscreen options. The various games sprinkled within the story consist of educational tasks like color or shape matching, point and click navigation skills, directionality, and some elements of counting or telling time. For example, a series of troublesome trucks will appear and the player must click on the one that consists of three trucks. Or an overhead view of the train tracks will require the player to follow directions to locate the missing James.
